Automotive Approvals

EEC directives require that all products whether they are a component for a vehicle or an after market accessory, be certified by the Vehicle Certification Agency. (VCA). The main EMC standard is 95/54/EC. See also Baseefa where intrinsic safety is also required.
The only standard that provides freedom of
movement across Europe is the automotive type approval 'e' mark.
Relevant standards are 95/54/EC, 97/24/EC and ECE Regulation 10.02.
Also 75/322/EEC (as amended by 2000/2/EC) from 1 January 2001.
Documents specified in the directive
together with a number of sample products are required for assessment and
testing.
The directive defines the permitted test
methods and the test limits to be used for radiated immunity and for radiated
emissions.
Test reports are prepared and a complete set
of technical documentation and test reports are submitted to the approval
authority.
Subject to a satisfactory review of the submitted documents and CoP assessment, the approval body issues a 'Type approval certificate' which authorises the manufacturer to put the "e" mark, or "E" mark, on the product(s).
ACL is Thatcham approved product manufacturer & designer
